The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Sometimes it might seem like the winter months are the slowest months when it comes to gardening. After all, what can you do when the temperature outside is way too cold for proper germination and even the days are much shorter?

Well, as you know, because Ray Of Heaven prides itself on using as little unnatural ways of growing as possible, I have no grow lights drawing electricity from the Grid nor any heating pads doing the same.

All hope is not lost, however. You can do a lot during the winter season to prepare for the spring and summer season. Summer crops can be grown from seed and it's actually great opportunity to learn how to grow from seed. And besides, you're not even losing anything by trying to grow from seed because you weren't doing anything or planning on doing anything anyway!

This year, for example, some great friends of mine gave me a pack of starter seeds of all different types of plants including vegetables and fruits. So I will take this opportunity to learn about new seeds, new plants, and what I can grow.

And of course, I will be using my South-facing window in the living room to help the seedlings along.  The miniature greenhouse I purchased a few years ago really makes growing indoors palpable.

Until I can figure out a way to get (or make) some solar powered grow lights, this will have to do.
