Sometimes when you discover something new about yourself such as a new skill or learn something new, you tend to get very excited about it and put all your effort into that new endeavor. But sometimes - if you're lucky - you find out more than one new thing about yourself and you have a decision to make. Should I put more effort into the new skill than the old; should I focus on my original skill and just count the new one as extra; or should I foster them both and grow them equally?
A Great Problem to Have
Well, this is the exact situation I'm currently in - at least when it comes to gardening. I'm sorry to say that I feel like I had been neglecting my original love; that is, the love of outdoor gardening and instead have been giving all of my attention to the new AeroGarden that I got a couple of weeks ago.![]() |

But today I went out and checked on everything and even fed them a little to show my babies that I still care.

Some Changes Necessary
Although there was no disaster to fix outside, there was a small issue of the browning of one of my aloe vera plants. When I first got my greenhouse (just realized I don't have any entries about my greenhouse!!!), I wanted to gauge its effectiveness so I threw in a few plants. Well, my strawberry plants loved the accommodations, but my aloe vera is really brown. So I've moved it out to join the rest if his friends. So there it is, a pretty good update on my outdoor garden. And as I think more on the above question; I see that it isn't a matter of replacing one skill (outdoor gardening) with the other (the AeroGarden), it's about finding where each skill fits well. In this particular case, outdoor gardening will always be my first love and will always have a special place in my heart. It's healthy, it's exciting, and it gets me out of the house where I'd otherwise be trapped behind a computer screen all day.
As for the AeroGarden, it's also exciting, but it's limiting since there is a limit to how many plants you can fit in it. But I can enjoy this device all day and it's a real conversation opener with students and clients alike.
